Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IF I DON’T REMEMBER MY DREAMS?
I teach you how to remember your dreams. Everyone dreams several times a night and learning to remember them is surprisingly easy and enjoyable. A notebook and pen by your bed are the only physical requirements. Once people practice the simple technique they report being delighted and look forward to sleep as they begin to remember more dreams.
DO YOU TELL ME WHAT MY DREAM MEANS?
I do not ever presume to know what someone’s dream means. The dreamer is the only reliable interpreter of their dream. I ask you questions. Your responses guide the process. I care about your relationship with yourself and we will explore what the building blocks of your dream might be telling you. Dreams do not tell us what we already know. They guide our attention to focus on what we may not be recognizing, but what is important to us. Your dreaming self is insightful and often encouraging - your personal cheerleader. You are never given more than you can handle. Stay curious.
CAN I TAKE DREAMING SERIOUSLY?
We humans are marvelously and mysteriously intricate beings from our amazing biology and brains to our creative ways of interacting with the world. Scientists have found answers to their puzzling questions through their dreams. We have a conscious awareness and an unconscious. Dreams are part of our complex unconscious serving to be digested into our waking life. They curve and weave and leap unexpectedly. The meanings are not on a straight path. As we learn to experience and take our own images seriously, something in us shifts and layers of insight grow. Your creative intelligence continues to evolve.
WHY DO SOME DREAMS SEEM UNIMPORTANT?
What becomes important is your exploration of the people, objects and actions. Insights can happen with a small dream fragment. Take note of any emotions in dreams or when you awake. Though dreams are weird, confusing or even disturbing, they point to different aspects of ourselves and our lives that want attention. Short dreams are rich soil to plow. Your dream maker gives you gold.
WHY DO I KEEP HAVING THE SAME DREAM?
Recurring dreams happen because we’re not quite getting the message. There is a subtle insight beneath the obvious that we’re not seeing. Our dreams are in the service of health and wholeness. Remembering this purpose, we are encouraged towards a greater respect for what shows up while we sleep. Repeated dream patterns often change when we “get the message” and there’s a shift in our thinking or beliefs internally or through our actions.
ARE NIGHTMARES BAD FOR YOU?
Frightening dreams are a way of getting our attention. We can discover where they are leading in a careful gentle way. Although in the dream we may experience fear, anxiety, terror or emotions we don’t usually feel in our waking lives, these are metaphors with a purpose. Physical sensations and emotional experiences in our dreams are explored for nuanced personal insights. You always control how much you want to explore and share.
